I wasn't sure about going to this. I'd been out the previous two nights and would see them in December at the Barrowlands. But then I remembered how much I enjoyed their last album launch and figured I would buy the album anyway so what the hell. YOLO.
I immediately felt at home when I snagged a spot relatively close to the stage. These were my people: hot, sweaty... and wrinkly.
I killed time flicking through Facebook, remembering the first time I'd been at the Hard Rock gig space, for Tom Russell's book launch, bumping into Moira from work and John from Uni.
Then a female slinked her way in front of me. Shortly afterwards, she waved for her husband to join her. My carefully selected view was blocked.
The gig began and I couldn't see the singer. Oh dear, never mind. Enjoy the music.
The husband was into the band more than the wife. He was punching the air and singing along, slightly alcohol-refreshed. Then glory to the gods of rock, he needed another pint. His wife disappeared and didn't return. After a couple of songs, she was still absent. He looked around and noticed her on the fringes. She wouldn't bring him his drink so he left and I reclaimed my spot.
Hallelujah.
Brilliant gig thereafter. Tommy's acoustic guitar was a bit weedy during the solos but otherwise, excellent.
Afterwards, I heard my nickname being shouted. I turned around and saw my old mate, Doug, who had finally decided to step into the gig world again after a self-imposed exile due to a back injury. It was good to catch up
